(1480). DURAND (Guillaume). RATIONALE DIVINORUM OFFICIORUM.
Vicenza, Hermann Liechtenstein, 1480.
In-folio of 224 leaves, gothic characters on 2 columns, porphyry calf, cold-stamped fillets, ornate ribbed spine, gilt edges (18th century binding).
The Rationale Diuinorum officiorum by Guillaume Durand (1230-1296), bishop of Mende, is one of the most important religious writings of the Middle Ages, and undoubtedly the most widely read. It was one of the first books to be printed. A wide-margined copy, entirely rubricated in blue, red and yellow. Light stains on several leaves, the first and second leaf, probably from another copy, have been misplaced by the binder at the end of the volume (ISTC, id00423000).
