Joseph Schein began his artistic career in theater and film with Serguei Eisenstein as his teacher. In 1945, he was appointed artistic director of the Russian Theater in Vilnius, and later became its head. After meeting Marc Chagall, Joseph Schein turned to painting. His work is imbued with Slavic and Jewish cultures.
