Flemish cross pendant with diamonds
18 ct rose gold, silver. Three-part hinged pendant in the Baroque style of very filigree foliage with applied two-tone rosettes. Set in silver with small diamond roses and decorated with three foiled diamond roses in conical gold box settings. Two eyelets on the back for threading a ribbon through. Not stamped. Pendant eyelets attached later. L 7.5 cm. W 4.5 cm.
Belgium, late 18th century.
This popular pendant, called "Croix à Papillon" or "Croix à la Jeannette", was very common in the Flemish part of Belgium at the end of the 18th century. However, this type can also be found in the Netherlands and northern France.
