DES AUTELS (Guillaume).
Repos de plus grand travail. Lyon, Jean de Tournes and Guillaume Gazeau, 1550. In-8, garnet, Jansenist morocco, interior lace, gilt edges (Godillot).
First edition of the first printed work by Guillaume des Autels (1529-1581).
In this work, the Burgundian poet, an admirer of Maurice Scève and cousin of Pontus de Tyard, sings of his love for his Saint, a young lady named Denyse L'Hoste, whom he had met in 1549 in Romans, Dauphiné: [...] I find in you a double immortal life. These are the effects of true celestial love, which I desire to be from you in me as it is from me in you: Amour ne dy je pas terrestre, de la chair & des corps, mais celeste des esprits & des ames (dedication).
