A pupil of Louis-Pierre Deseine and Emmanuel Dupaty, Alexis François Thomas exhibited at the Salon between 1833 and 1859. Our sketch may be a preparatory study for the marble statue entitled L'Odalisque, acquired by the Société des amis des arts de Valenciennes.
