Jean-Désiré Ringel d'Illzach, a student of Alexandre Falguière at the École des Beaux-Arts, exhibited at the Salon des artistes français from 1873 to 1889, where he presented numerous bust and medallion portraits. His work as a medallist was particularly appreciated by the public, and he received commissions from the magazine L'Art et de l'État, which made his reputation.
