A diamond and gemstone set dragonfly brooch, c.1890, the body consisting in a line of rub set oval cut rubies, into a sapphire set abdomen and emerald eyes. Two pairs of wings set throughout with graduated old cut and rose cut diamonds, in openwork silver mounts backed in gold. ‘C’ catch, pin and safety chain. Tested as approximately 14ct gold and silver. 40mm x 46mm. Presented in a case by D. J. Lavender Antiques, London.10.32g Provenance: Maurice 'Dick' Turpin, Barons Keep, London W14. Condition Report: General tarnish and pits to the gold mount.
Moderate abrasion to the emeralds.
Rubies all present and well-matched. One has a small chip to the crown.
Light wear to the sapphire cabochon.
The antennae have vacant collets (possibly lacking diamond chips).
