Full-length portrait of Henri IV or Allegory of royalty
Petit point tapestry
France, 17th century
30 x 23 cm
Male figure dressed in armor covered with an ermine coat, adorned with a feathered helmet, right hand on his chest, left hand holding something resembling a baton of command, gazing skyward. Depicted standing before a balustrade adorned with a monumental curtain, near objects of worship and pageantry, including a shield adorned with an animal (lion?) crowned with a fleur-de-lys. In the background, the sun, symbol of the divine, is chasing away the clouds and haloing the royal figure.
The attributes present are typical of many royal representations, making precise identification of the figure difficult.
It shows wear and accidents.
