Electroplating is an electrolytic goldsmithing technique used to reproduce objects using a mold connected to the negative pole of a battery, which is then covered with a layer of metal. The principle of electrolysis is used to apply a metallic deposit to the surface of an object by means of a direct electric current, the metal initially being in the form of cations in solution in a solvent (usually water).
