A Hellenistic glass skyphos dated to approximately the first century BC. The skyphos is of the characteristic shape with thumbholds affixed to the sides of the cup and a flared base. It is made entirely of glass with a beautiful iridescent sheen often seen in examples which were buried, having been caused by the chemical process undergone because of the soil. Ancient Hellenic World - CA. 1st Century BC Dimensions: H: 3 1/4 in., (8.3 cm.); W: 7 7/8 in., (20 cm.) Evidence of previous breakage and subsequent repair, all pieces appear to be original. Some wear across surface due to age. Iridescence due to burial present throughout piece.
