Catastrophe d'Anvers du 6 septembre 1889, explosion de la cartoucherie Corvilain On September 6, 1889, Antwerp was startled by an enormous bang just before two in the afternoon. It could be heard as far away as Lier and, according to some witnesses, as far away as East Flanders and Zeeland. The bang was caused by a large explosion in the Corvilain gunpowder factory. The factory was located in the polders near Oosterweel (now Kattendijkdok and Westkaai) In-folio oblong, with 21 original photographs about the hideous disaster (the pit struck by the explosion, damaged buildings in the area, the fire department, the funeral procession, the mass grave...). Slutty brown cloth binding with gold printing (damage to spine)
