Giovanni Battista Busiri (Rome 1698 - 1757) Six landscapes with figures Oil on canvas 26.5 x 41 cm He began his painting activities around 1720, exhibiting landscapes and views of Rome and its countryside. He was inspired by the masters in vogue in his time namely Jan Frans van Bloemen and Gaspar van Wittel known as the Vanvitelli. He devoted much of his time to the foreign market; his works were immediately popular with English collectors, which prevented him from being compared in the city with other landscape painters such as Paolo Anesi, Paolo Monaldi, Alessio de Marchis and the older Andrea Locatelli. An album of his drawings is preserved at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, and another set of 57 at the British Museum in London.
