Son of Johann Heinrich from whom he learned the art of painting. In 1677 he left Germany for Rome where he had the opportunity to enter the workshop of Domenico Brandi; an indelible experience for Roos' future artistic expression. He later took up residence in Tivoli; his home was surrounded by animals, so much so that it was called Noah's Ark, which the painter constantly used as models for his paintings. His works are housed in numerous museums: Gemäldegalerie in Dresden, Prado in Madrid, Kassel, Hessisches Landesmuseum in Kassel, Uffizi in Florence.
