REVOLUTIONARY CAVALRY OFFICER'S SABER
Gilded brass mounting. Long-tailed lion representing the club. Copper filigree handle. Single-branch hilt with two diamond-shaped pommels and straight curved quillon.
Beautiful curved blade, with flat back, counter-edge, gutters and hollow sides, engraved, gilded and blued in thirds; on one side, "Vaincre ou mourir pour la Nation, la Loi" (the King erased); on the other side, trophies of arms, foliage and foliage scrolls. Leather scabbard with two fittings, two bracelets and two brass splints.
A.B.E. circa 1790-1792 (composite, strong traces of use, one ring missing, one bracelet later).
