Charming "coquillage" neck or collar watch. Yellow gold 750/1000th guilloché watch depicting a shell enhanced with "Sèvres blue", white, black and sky-blue enamel, decorated with feathers and set with two lines of fine half-pearls. White enamel dial with Arabic numerals. Rooster movement. Key at 2 o'clock. The movement is signed "Chocquet à Paris" on the plate.
The watch comes with a chain and key.
Guilloché and enameled fixed hanger ring.
Presented in a box topped with a count's crown.
1st Empire period (wear to enamel on back of watch).
32.3 x 31.1 mm.
In working condition (no warranty). Escapement.

A handwritten letter explaining the watch's origins was once enclosed, but is unfortunately missing today.
Biography:
Charles Nicolas d'Anthouard de VRAINCOURT (1773-1852)
An artilleryman, he quickly distinguished himself under Bonaparte's orders in Italy and Egypt. He remained there until the end of the French occupation. First aide-de-camp to Prince Eugène, he became brigadier general and continued to distinguish himself under the Empire in the artillery, notably at Danzig.
