SABRE DE RECOMPENSE, MODELE DES JOURNEES DE BRUMAIRE. Checkered ebony handle. Chased and gilded brass mounting. Pommel in foliate stock, hilt branch with foliate decoration, diamond-shaped auricles edged with acanthus leaves and straight quillon adorned with a laurel-decorated knob. The underside of the hilt is engraved "Boutet Directeur Artiste Manufre à Versailles" with the remainder of the LD and NB hallmarks. Flat-backed curved blade signed Klingenthal, counter-edge engraved, gilded and blued in thirds with braces, foliage and trophies. Presented with a reconstituted scabbard consisting of a cap decorated with foliage scrolls, a crevice covered with shagreen, and a large cap decorated with flag trophies, foliage and a semiset of scales. Bracelets decorated with foliage friezes and basketry-style squared pitons. Gilded, mismatched and composite scabbard, very finely reconstituted from a period bouterole. A.B.E.
