Silver and Copper
Tibet , 18th century
Dimensions: Height 14 cm
Weight: 486 grams
A portable miniature shrine with textile case embroidered with celestial dragons and peonies. In the center of the gau is an effigy of Jambhala, God of Wealth, seated with legs crossed. He is holding the mongoose Nehulay in his left hand, the right hand is holding a citrus fruit. The effigy is surrounded by a beaded circle, followed by a decorative band with depictions of the Eight Auspicious Symbols of Buddhism: a parasol, a pair of golden fish, the great treasure vase, a lotus, the right-turning conch shell, the endless knot, the banner of victory and the wheel of dharma.
