This religious manuscript in Arabic compiled by Sheikh Abul Hassan Mohamed ibn Ali al-Jali was completed on the 16th of the month of rabi al-awal in 1280 AH / 1863 AD. The text is laid out in two columns of 13 lines per page, with titles in broad calligraphy in cartouches. In the body of the manuscript, the titles in broad, ornamental calligraphy, as well as certain elements of the marginal decoration, and the opening bifolio decorated with geometric motifs, make this an example of the quality of religious manuscript production in sub-Saharan Africa. The brown leather binding is decorated with stamped geometric and floral motifs.
