A MONOCHROME GREEN-GLAZED POTTERY MODEL OF A CIRCULAR RAM PEN WITH FLAT LIPPED RIM, EASTERN HAN DYNASTY, 1ST-2ND CENTURY The interior with a shepherd with head turned, seated on a large, saddled ram, amongst a flock of seven other standing rams, each with ridged curled horns, covered overall in an even green glaze now iridescent due to oxidisation. 25.7cm diameter. PROVENANCE: Formerly in a private Hong Kong collection, sold 20th May 1983. Formerly in the collection of Susan Chen. NOTE: A similar pen with a shepherd on a larger ram and four smaller rams, from the eumorfopoulos collection, is included by John Ayers in Far Eastern Ceramics in the Victoria and Albert Museum, no.15; another with five smaller rams, from the Musee Guimet, Paris, is included by Seiichi Mizuno in Sekai Toji Zenshu, Collection of World's Ceramics, volume 8, China, Ancient China to six Dynasties, no.88; a further example with four smaller rams was included by Aileen Lau and Dr. Kenson Kwok in the exhibition, Spirit of Han, National Museum of Singapore, 1991, no.194, p.176;
