CHATEAUBRIAND (Fr.-René de). AUTOGRAPH LETTER addressed to his "dear sister," the Duchess of Duras. Monday 10 a.m. [c. March 12, 1827]. 1 p. ½ in-4. INDEED LETTER concerning freedom of the press: "Voilà la censure établie!". The Duchesse de DURAS (1777-1828), author of the famous novel Ourika in which she analyzed issues of racial and sexual equality, is today considered one of the first feminists. She was one of Chateaubriand's most loyal correspondents, and a devoted friend who furthered his political and diplomatic career.
