NERVAL (Gérard de). AUTOGRAPHIC LETTER SIGNED addressed to his father. February 5 / 1854. One page in-16. Moving bill from Doctor Blanche's clinic in Passy, where Nerval was interned several times for psychological disorders. "My dear Dad, I'm writing you this bill to tell you that I'm getting better and better. I slept well last night and I think I'll only have a few more days of rest. I hope someone will let me know how you're doing while I go and kiss you. If you can do without Gabrielle, send her to Passy to stay with M. Blanche, I'll be very happy to see her. Besides, I have everything I need here. So I'd mainly like to hear from you. Your son, Gérard". The date "1854" added at the head of the letter is questionable, since Gabrielle BENARD, who looked after Nerval's father for some ten years, died in October 1853. The poet made two visits to Dr. Blanche's clinic, a year apart. Either the poet's mental confusion caused him to forget the maid's death, and the date of "1854" is correct, or it is the cause of his error with the date. ¶ Correspondance, Édit. de La Pléiade, t. III, p. 890.
