Important type 1780 sword presented to Captain C.M. ORMSBY by the 2nd Company of Loyal Dublin Infantry. Grooved ivory buttstock with silver center ring engraved "Presented by the 2nd Company of Loyal Dublin Infantry to CAPTN C.M ORMSBY". Silver mounting, urn-shaped pommel, beaded hilt and beaded ring. Quillon curved towards the tip. Flat-backed blade, hollow sides engraved with the Great British Arms and the numeral "GR III", signed on the back J.J. RUNKEL SOLINGEN. Dublin title marks (1798). Grooved leather scabbard with three silver fittings, signed "ARCHER KING CUTLER DUBLIN" and ring bracelet. Posterior bolt. Length : 99 cm A.B.E. Circa 1798 (Oxidation on the blade). Historical background: C.M. Ormsby is correctly listed as Captain of the 2nd Company of the Loyal Dublin Infantry in the Irish Volunteer Corps Register.
