= Sandstone "sancai" covered candelabra Resting on a short flared foot, with two circular trays rising to a ringed column. The whole covered with splashes of amber and green enamels on a cream background. H. 26.9 cm PROVENANCE Private collection in Paris. A similar model sold by Sotheby's, New York, "Important Chinese Art" sale, September 11, 2019, lot 734. NOTE This elegant candlestick is based on a bronze prototype. The wealth and refinement enjoyed by the Tang elites encouraged the production of many luxury objects, including sophisticated candelabras like this one. A similar piece in the Gulbenkian Museum of Oriental Art, illustrated by WATSON William in "Tang and Liao Ceramics", London, 1984, pl. 42.
