Victor Prouvé (1858-1943) was a French painter, sculptor and engraver associated with the Art Nouveau movement. He was born on August 13, 1858 in Nancy, France, and died on February 15, 1943 in Le Stif. Prouvé was a versatile artist who practiced a variety of techniques, including painting, engraving, sculpture and decoration. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Cabanel. One of Prouvé's notable collaborations was with the famous glass artist Emile Gallé. Prouvé provided Gallé with figure models for his decorative vases, including the famous Vase d'Orphée exhibited at the 1889 Universelle.
Prouvé's work extended beyond painting and sculpture. He was also interested in photography, poster design, jewelry and textiles.
