Important salon furniture comprising a suite of 8 flat-back armchairs in carved and gilded wood decorated with winged sphynge heads supporting the armrests. The belts, capitals and front moldings are carved with friezes featuring culottes, shells and acanthus leaf motifs. They stand on sheath feet at the front, terminating in claws, and saber feet at the back. 7 armchairs are Empire-style and 1 is late Empire with a fractured rear leg. Height: 97; Width: 85 cm Accident to a back leg, gilding Embossed red velvet cover in the style The inspiration of the Jacob brothers can be seen in these chairs; their own style and the stylistic manner of Empire-style ceremonial chairs. Alphonse Jacob-Desmalter (1799-1870) was active in Paris in his workshop on rue Meslée, along with François Honoré Georges Jacob Desmalter (1770-1847).
