Provenance :
Former Henri-René d'Allemagne collection (1863 - 1950) and by descent.
Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn (1545 - 1617) was bishop of Wursburg in 1573. The date on the object indicates that it belonged to the equipment of his guard when he took office. An identical example is kept at the Victoria & Albert Museum in
London (inv. M.1630-1944).
