After MICHELANGELO BUONARROTI (Caprese, 1475-Rome, 1564), 19th century. "Giuliano de Medici" Bronze. Measurements: 92 x 37 x 39 cm (sculpture); 80 x 38 x 42 cm (wooden base). The work under bidding is the representation of the original sculpture made by Michelangelo between 1526 and 1534 and which is part of the decoration of the New Sacristy in the Basilica of San Lorenzo in Florence. The idealized statue of Giuliano follows the canons of perfect proportions of classical antiquity. He appears seated, dressed in Roman military costume and carrying the baton of command, while maintaining an attitude of intervention and movement, which can be seen in the torso and turned head. In addition, he brings forward one of his legs while he pulls back the other in a more relaxed pose, revealing a "contrapposto" position. The whole set shows great detail and realism, which can be appreciated in the gesture and facial expression of the Italian politician. Giuliano de' Medici, a member of one of the most renowned families in Renaissance Italy due to their wealth as bankers, an activity that allowed them to act as patrons of important scientists and artists of the time, is depicted with great skill.
