PAUL SILVESTRE (1884 - 1976).
"Jeune fille et chevreau", ca. 1930.
Sculpture in patinated bronze
Signed: P. SILVESTRE and SUSSE FRES. EDTS. PARIS
Measurements: 82 x 18 x 30 cm.
Paul Silvestre was born in Toulouse, although he developed his career in Paris when he was admitted in 1905 in the School of Fine Arts of the capital. Years later, in 1912, he won a scholarship to Rome and, from 1921, he exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français, winning the gold medal in 1930.
This large-format work manages to condense in the same term two diametrically opposed attitudes: on the one hand, tranquility, drawn in the figure of the woman, naked and kneeling before the animal which, on the opposite side, pushes violently with its hindquarters in an offensive attitude.
