Writing table. Louis XVI. France, ca. 1780.
Mahogany wood, with fruitwood marquetry.
Side and handles in gilt bronze.
It has some flaws in the wood and leather.
Measurements: 77 x 125 x 76 cm.
Elegant French table made of mahogany wood with bronze applications ornamenting the profile of the top and the handles of the five drawers. The piece belongs to the Louis XVI period and style. It is a neoclassical piece of furniture with a rational and light structure. It stands on stylized stipe or truncated cone-shaped legs, typically neoclassical, which are joined at the organized waist with the symmetrical distribution of the drawers. The whole is richly decorated with fruit marquetry that is distributed in all its corners and combines geometric designs (ovate and filleted, Greek fretwork) with vegetal elements (rosettes, palmettes, foliated fretwork).
