L'Accusateur Public - Diary of Richer Serisy Head of collection nos. 1 to 11 and nos. 22, 25, 26 and 27. Paris. Migneret, 1795 ff. Followed by REAL (Pierre François): Journal de l'Opposition n° 1 et 2 [1795]. Gr. in 8°. Modern binding, pastiche of antique binding, in brown basane. Spine ribbed, decorated with gilt irons and fillets. On the first cover, shield with "Pour servir l'histoire" (To serve history), in gilt letters. Issue 13 never appeared. One of the most remarkable and influential organs of counter-revolutionary reaction, entirely written by Richer-Serisy (1764-1803), friend and collaborator of Camille Desmoulins for the various journals the latter published; Richer-Serisy was imprisoned for a few months as a suspect, and it was after his release that he unleashed his fury against the men and things of the Revolution, publishing l'Accusateur public. This newspaper appeared at indeterminate, often very distant intervals. Denounced at the tribune and prosecuted as one of the authors of the bloody day of Vendémiaire 13, the author had to suspend publication after n° 12, but resumed a few months later with n° 14. L'Accusateur Public was published in 34 issues.
