Copy of the letter from the Minister of Marine to Messieurs ... Gouverneur et Intendant de l'Isle de France et de Bourbon, given at Versailles, May 30, 1775, signed by de Sartine, Ministre de la Marine.
Handwritten document of 8 pages, on browned paper, with some foxing. Small tears.
A small dispute between two inhabitants of La Réunion was brought to Versailles.
Madame de Jarry, widow in the first marriage of M. Michel, an employee in the administration of Isle de France, had sold land belonging to her in the Terre Rouge district to Madame de Murigny.
As it turned out, the land had been incorrectly measured. Hence the conflict between the two plaintiffs. The first argued that she was entitled to the land (the measurement had been taken before), while the second demanded cancellation of the sale or reimbursement of the sums involved.
As the conflict escalated and escalated to Versailles, de Sartine, Minister of the Navy, suggested that a new royal concession be granted to the plaintiff, to compensate her.
