Bram Bogart was born in Delft, Netherlands, in 1921.
A house painter against his will, he studied at the School of Fine Arts in The Hague and soon turned to abstraction.
At the end of the '50s, his first solo exhibition at the Galerie Creuze in Paris, revealed canvases with a thick, sculptural quality.
In 1960, the artist moved to Belgium: from then on, his canvases became larger, with brighter, denser colors.

Having acquired Belgian nationality in 1966, Bram Bogart, who passed away in 2012, is today considered one of Belgium's greatest contemporary painters.
Everything in nature can be reduced to shapes, the rectangle, the cross and the circle. In fact, it's always these shapes that have played a role in the development of my practice.
