Male votive head from Etruscan culture, ca. 3rd century BC. Terracotta. Slight cracks on the face. Damaged nose, cheek and neck. Thermoluminescence test (TL) attached. With export certificate dated 2023. Provenance: French private collection, formed 1950s-1970s/ UK private collection, P. Adie/ Purchased at Bonhams, London, auction, 2014; Exhibited: Ifergan Collection, Malaga (2018-2020); Feriarte, IFEMA (Madrid, 12-20 November 2022). Measurements: 29 cm high. Hollow in shape, depicted with youthful features, with a mass of curls peeping out from under the himation, with traces of red pigment. This work would belong to the Etruscan classical period, when works in the classical line of those produced during the Imperial period began to be developed. Thus, we can see a face with idealised features and a classical profile that would form the basis of the classical Roman portrait.
