Erich Heckel (1883 Döbeln/Saxony - Radolfzell 1970) - Poster of the "1st Exhibition of Modern German Art" Krefeld.
Woodcut on firm, smooth wove paper. (19)20. Approx. 63.5 x 45.5 cm (sheet size approx. 73 x 52 cm). One of only 17 known copies to date. Signed and dated lower right.

The exhibition poster varies the woodcut "Männerbildnis" from 1919 (Gercken 739 H). The exhibition at the Kaiser Wilhelm Museum in Krefeld, where works by Heinrich Campendonk, Emil Nolde, Oskar Kokoschka, August Macke, Franz Marc and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, among others, were shown from early May to early June 1920, was organized by the sculptor and art historian Dr. Ludwig Thormaehlen (1889-1956), who was a friend of Heckel. Three copies of the poster are owned by museums: Ada and Emil Nolde Foundation, Seebüll; Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe, Hamburg; Rifkind Center, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, USA.
