Support: 60% (partial preservation of skeleton; gaps; consolidation) Tethysaurus is an extinct genus of tethysaurine mosasauroid from the Late Cretaceous, Lower Turonian stage. The only species is Tethysaurus nopcsai. The name means "Tethysauran lizard of Nopcsa," referring to the Greek sea goddess Tethys and the Hungarian paleontologist Ferenc Nopcsa, who made pioneering studies of aquatic squamates in the Adriatic Sea. It was found in the Akrabou Formation, near the villages of Tadirhourst and Asfla in the Goulmima region of Errachidia province, Morocco. The tethysaurus measures less than 3 meters. The fossil was excavated in the Asfla deposits near Goulmina, Morocco.
