Desert rose is a sedimentary formation common in desert countries. Fading in color from orange to yellow-ochre, it is an aggregate of gypsum crystals that forms under precise environmental and climatic conditions.
The gypsum that makes up desert roses crystallizes in the monoclinic system in lens-shaped aggregates into flat crystals that are thinner at the ends.
