NILS THORSSON (Eslöv, 1898 - Copenhagen, 1975).
Set of six chairs, ca. 1970.
Polychrome wood.
Slight wear marks.
Measurements: 77 x 45 x 52 cm.
Set of six chairs designed by Nils Thorsson. The combination of red and black, together with the rounded profiles and the laminated legs show the happy confluence between the formal purification of Scandinavian furniture and the new pop trends of the sixties and seventies. Nils Thorsson was a renowned ceramist and designer. His talent for the decorative arts was reflected in the prizes he won at competitions such as the 1925 Paris Universal Exhibition. He was later artistic director of the Royal Porcelain Factory until 1969. In his later years he also devoted himself to furniture design, of which there remain notable examples such as the chairs shown here.
