NILS THORSSON (Eslöv, Sweden, 1898 - Copenhagen, 1975).
Table, 1970s.
Polychrome wood.
Shows signs of use. Needs refinishing.
Measurements: 73 x 120 x 120 cm.
Table designed by Nils Thorsson. On legs with a semi-cylindrical section sits a square top, all in black polychrome wood. In this piece, the formal purity of Scandinavian furniture is allied with the new pop trends of the sixties and seventies. Nils Thorsson was a renowned ceramist and designer. His talent for the decorative arts was reflected in the prizes he received at competitions such as the 1925 Paris Universal Exhibition. He was later artistic director of the Royal Porcelain Factory until 1969. In his later years he also devoted himself to furniture design, of which there remain notable examples such as the table shown here.
