Provenance
Julius Weismann, Freiburg/Nußdorf near Überlingen; since then in family ownership Baden-Württemberg/North Rhine-Westphalia
The composer Julius Weismann (1879-1950) was a friend of Julius Bissier. Bissier portrayed the composer - described by the artist as a "tone poet" - twice and studied Weismann's musical work in detail. For example, there is a design for a stage set for Weismann's opera "Schwanenweiß". Julius Weismann's estate contained around 15 paintings by Bissier.
