A RARE BRONZE FIGURE OF AVALOKITESHVARA
Nepal, Licchavi style, 9th c. or later
H. 28,5 cm
Standing in slight tribhanga with his right hand lowered in the varadamudra while the left is resting on his hip, wearing dhoti, scarf fastened around his hips and legs, upavita, bejewelled, his face displaying a serene expression with downcast eyes below arched eyebrows that run into the nose-bridge, elongated earlobes with ear ornaments, his hair combed in a chignon and secured with a three leaf tiara set with a minute figure of Buddha set to its front. Mounted on a stand.
