Earthenware plate with contoured rim featuring patriotic polychrome decoration in the center of a citadel surmounted by a flag and two soldiers in arms, one at the ramparts and the other at the gate. To the left of the basin is a cannon in action.
Often confused with the Bastille décor, this is actually an evocation of the defense of a besieged homeland.
Late 18th century, revolutionary period.
