Rare ceremonial basket Bronze or cast brass India, Karnataka 26 x 54 x 55 cm Provenance: Former R. Van der Stukken Collection Conical in shape, this atypical object takes the form of traditional basketry, used both for covering and for transporting crops. It features a cross-engraved decoration evoking fine bamboo weaving, and a relief decoration on the rim and in the center, featuring a kirtimukha head (a protective monster) surrounded by two dancing ganas. This cast brass object is similar to those used in Bhuta rituals.
