Small in-4, untrimmed, blue glazed calf, triple fillet, 4-nerved spine decorated with small irons in the 18th century style, interior roulette, gilt edges ( 19th century binding). New edition of this work which is both a universal history of battles since Antiquity and a kind of treatise on the rights of war, on the rights and duties of people according to their condition: king, prince, baron, pilgrim, bourgeois, vassal, monk, serf, foreigner..., the rights of imprisonment, the rules of battles in closed fields... The author, long called Bonet or Bonour by bibliographers [...], was prior of Selonnet and a doctor of law (Bechtel). The first, undated edition was published in 1477, according to Van Praet and Brunet. The work was a great success, and was reprinted many times. This is the fifth edition in Gothic script. It features a large woodcut title depicting the siege of a city by a troop of soldiers under the king's command, and numerous historiated letters in the text. Some rubbing to the binding, leaves sometimes a little browned along the lateral margin, rare marginal stains not serious, small lack in the inner margin of leaf T5. Provenance: Jacques Richard (stamp on title and B1 leaf) and Henri de La Broise (bookplate, with no. 682).
