Pierre de BRACH. Les Poemes... divided into three books. In-4, red morocco with decor in the Du Seuil style, nicely decorated six-rib spine, gilt roulette on the edges, interior roulette, gilt edges on marbling ( Niedrée). Brunet, I-1196 // De Backer, 516 // Tchemerzine-Scheler, II-106. (8 f.)-220 f.-(2 f.) / ã4, ē4, A-Iii4, Kkk2 / 149 x 215 mm. Very rare first edition. A Bordeaux jurisconsult, Pierre de Brach (1549-1605) was close to Montaigne, Du Bartas and Pelletier du Mans. Viollet-Le-Duc speaks of him as an elegant an elegant and harmonious versifier, far superior in this respect to all the poets of his contemporaries, and regrets that he is often relegated to the category of patois poets, as his work contains only 24 Gascon verses among thousands of French verses. His poems include a long hymn to Bordeaux, various elegies and odes, as well as a Voyage en Gascogne. This edition is adorned with an engraved portrait by Thomas de Leu. Missing leaves D2 and D3, facsimile of notebook Iii. Small stains to binding, a few pale freckles, f. ã3 torn in margin. Provenance: Al. Gayanis (? old manuscript bookplate partially erased).
