New edition of this poem of over 7,000 lines, which the author had originally published under the title
Les Combatz du fidelle papiste pelerin romain contre l'apostat Priapiste (or antipapiste) and which is directed against Calvinism and its followers.
This is a reprint with a few changes at the beginning of the poem. The names of the interlocutors have been changed and are now called the
Celestial Knight and the
Chevalier Terrestre.
The first edition under this title appeared in 1553.
This edition is illustrated with 29 small woodcuts in the text.
Minor damage to headpieces and hinges, title and last 3 leaves repaired in the margins, one leaf angularly missing due to the initial size of the leaf. The binder's knife has slightly trimmed the printed marginalia on 1 or 2 leaves.
