First edition.
Versified account in Latin of the ballet given by Catherine de Médicis to the Polish ambassadors in the Tuileries gardens in August 1573, on the occasion of the election to the Polish throne of her son Henri, Duc d'Anjou, the future Henri III. It includes two pieces in French, one by Ronsard,
La Nymphe de France parle, the other by Jamyn,
La nymphe angevine parle.
It is illustrated with 4 large full-page woodcuts and 16 woodcuts in the text attributed to
Jean Cousin by Tchemerzine and to
Olivier Codoré by Brun. The large woodcuts depict an allegorical figure, the coat of arms of France, a mountain-topped chariot with nymphs and the ballet hall built for the occasion, with sixteen dancers symbolizing the French provinces surrounded by spectators.
Restoration to upper margin of leaves F2 and F3.
