Rare translation by Guillaume Royhier of a Homeric poem:
The Battle of the Rats and the Frogs.
Guillaume Royhier, born in 1529, was mayor of Dijon in 1581-1582 and again from 1584 to 1587.
The
Batrachomyomachie, a comic epic often fancifully attributed to Homer, closely parodies the
Iliad, and recounts in decasyllables a fight between rats (here mice) and frogs. It has been widely translated since the 16th century.
Very rare edition. Only three copies are known to exist, one in the BnF, one in the Lignerolles catalog (II, 756) and this one.
A few stains, some old handwritten annotations on the title and in the margins, underlining in ink.
