French moralist, jurist and politician, Guillaume Du Vair (1556-1621) made his career as a magistrate at the same time as he pursued an ecclesiastical career. He was a member of the Paris Parliament, President of the Provence Parliament, Keeper of the Seals and, at the end of his life, received the title of Count and the bishopric of Lisieux.
