Jijé never ceases to fascinate us with his gentle, elegant mastery of black and white. The disconcerting fluidity of his work makes us appreciate his many original brush and Indian ink plates.
But it's through a much thicker brush and a whole palette of colors that Joseph Gillain opens up to us. It is he who, through his many paintings, welcomes us into his deepest intimacy.
The three paintings in the catalog alone are representative of this gift. A corner of Spain during a trip to join his son Philippe in the midst of archaeological research, a house in Champrosay
Champrosay, a definitive base camp and landmark open to so many friends and artists, and a final bouquet so personal, a modesty that fades through creation.
