The character appeared in a full-bleed background - a decoration added later by the artist. What is Amélie thinking, with her mischievous look? You'd think she was a model on a photo shoot, pausing between shots. "It's as if she only lets a small percentage of what she's thinking show through," adds Jean-Pierre Gibrat. Amélie would pass for a warrior, if her smile and the red cross on her armband, echoed on her musette bag, didn't soften the harsh image of her belt, cartridge belt and khaki overalls - not to mention the ammunition box that serves as her seat...
